    One piece of advice I'd offer to nursing students or recent graduates interested in innovation and leadership in healthcare is this: never lose sight of the individual person behind the care. Innovation should always be rooted in compassion and driven by the question, "How does this genuinely improve someone's life?"

    In our work at the Live-in Care Hub, while we don't provide healthcare ourselves, we collaborate closely with healthcare (and other) professionals to support older people to live independently in their own homes. This gives us a unique perspective on the gaps and opportunities within traditional care systems. I often see that it's at these intersections - between medical care, daily living support, and emotional wellbeing - that real, impactful innovation can happen.

    To position yourself for success, I'd encourage three things. First, spend time truly listening to patients and families. They often know where the system isn't working. Second, seek out experiences beyond the hospital setting - community care, live-in support, and social care all offer invaluable insights into the bigger picture of health and aging. And third, don't be afraid to speak up with ideas, even if they challenge the status quo. Leadership often starts with asking the uncomfortable but necessary questions.

    Innovation in healthcare isn't always about new technology. It can be a fresh approach to communication, continuity of care, or the dignity with which we treat our elders. Keep learning, keep questioning, and keep the person at the center of everything you do.
